July 5th - Our speaker had to cancel at the last minute. This gave us the opportunity to discuss ideas for an upcoming special community event on June 26th. Thanks to Rotarian Mohammed Saigar, Alan Mallory agreed to present on his family's experience climbing Mount Everest.
July 19th - The Cybergnomes Robotics Club dropped by, this time with their robot!!
They recently placed 17th in the world championships. They are in the top 100 high school robotics teams in the world! It is our pleasure to be one of their sponsors.
Rotarian Gene Peycha has joined the Club's Leadership Team taking over the Foundation Portfolio. As Chair of the Foundation Committee, some of Gene's job will be to inspire our club to give to the Foundation (such as the Every Rotarian, Every Year campaign) and participate in its activities (such as the PolioPlus campaign). Thanks Gene!
On July 26th, Alan Mallory (a fellow Rotarian from the Barrie area) captivated an audience of almost 100 people as he shared his family's amazing journey climbing Mount Everest. In the spring of 2008, Alan and his family set a world record as the first family of four to reach the summit. Alan presented an exciting visual journey of the two-month expedition through some of the most terrifying and arduous conditions imaginable. Attendees showed their appreciation to our Club for hosting the event by donating $629 when we passed the hat!! Check out his website at www.alanmallory.com.

Under the direction of the District Governor, the selection process for the District Governor Nominee Designate has started. Each year Rotary Clubs of District 7010 are asked to canvass their members to find an individual who is interested, motivated and qualified to be District Governor. This meant to initiate the process for the selection of District Governor for the Rotary year 2019 - 2020.
Forms are available for the candidate's name to be submitted to the District. Interviews will be tentatively held on Wednesday, October 26th, 2016. Candidates are also required to submit a resume of their Rotary and other volunteer experiences. Although District involvement is strongly encouraged, being an Assistant Governor is not a prerequisite.
Anyone interested in learning more should contact a member of the Board.
The Learning Academy program is designed to stimulate interest in acquiring more knowledge about Rotary. Newer Rotarians, who want to gather more information as part of their orientation to Rotary, will find this program extremely beneficial. It will also provide training to Rotarians who would like to assume positions of responsibility and leadership at either the Club or the District level.
In general, Rotarians will learn more about Rotary both locally and internationally with a focus on Foundation, Membership, Community Service, Administration, and Public Relations (Image). For five consecutive months, each month will focus specifically on one of the areas with questions comprised of true and false, fill in the blanks, and multiple choice answers. You will have a month to complete the module and send it back electronically. The modules will be emailed to you by the Dean of the Academy. Some Clubs in our District are having fellowship events once a month and working on the modules together. The information is basic to Rotary. Advanced Rotary education and leadership training is found under "The Rotary Leadership Institute."
This summer’s Learning Academy program will begin mid-August 2016 and finish at the end of December 2016. Certificates of successful completion will be delivered to the graduates. There is no registration fee for the program as all communication is via the Internet. The Rotary International website, the District 7010 website and Google are excellent resources, as are experienced Rotarians. What’s New! This semester modules will also include PDFs of information to reference.
If you were enrolled in the Learning Academy previously, and were unable to complete all of the modules, you can enroll and pick up the modules that you need to finish. We would love to have you complete your Learning Academy program!
Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. You will find the application as a pdf or Word doc:

Our new Board of Directors is at the helm and testing out a new structure which consists of a smaller Board that works with a Leadership Team. The Board has also assumed oversight for fundraising and public relations, and will continue to receive support from many individual members and sub-committees who oversee various tasks and responsibilities that keep the club running.
The Summer Team is up to bat with meeting duties for July, August and September. Led by Mary Ann Winterton, the team lineup is Tyler Chatterson, Geoffrey Belisle, Dominic Ellis, Brian Hickey, Bill Huggett, Nilusha Premasinghe, and Karen Willison.
