August 3rd - Club members and families enjoyed a fantastic BBQ at Sue and Lorne Kenney's in their beautiful backyard. We were thrilled so many friends from the Rotary Club of South Georgian Bay joined us for the fun evening. A highlight of the evening was spending time with our outbound exchange student Sarah Houston and her family. Check out the photo album here.
August 9th - Awesome speaker today! Dr. Lunn Hungfo from Health Mission Outreach. We recently sponsored supplies for a dental mission trip to Guatemala with our very own Rotarian Dr. Mohammed Saigar. HMO’s mission is to promote partnerships between health care professionals and those that are in need for mutual, unique experiences from participation, and to create hope for the recipients, all directed towards the betterment of mankind. August 16th - Club update on the Legacy Project.
August 23rd - Kim Bryan educated our members on family life with her daughter Leah and their service dog Nox. Leah who has Downs Syndrome, also has been diagnosed with Austism. Nox joined the Bryan family just before Christmas in 2013 thanks to the Lions Foundation of Canada - the two-year old lab is a ‘graduate’ of the foundation’s autism assistance dog guide program.

Accommodation is at a premium. Rooms are going quickly and difficult to come by! The District has secured two blocks of rooms.
Hilton Garden Inn Atlanta Downtown: Rooms are 235USD plus taxes per night which includes a hot breakfast. The hotel is .3 km from the Congress Centre and newly renovated.
Hyatt Atlanta Midtown: Rooms are 195USD plus taxes per night. This does not include breakfast. Breakfast can be purchased at the hotel for 14USD. The hotel is 2 km from the Congress Centre and a block from the metro. It is in the heart of many restaurants and attractions.

This past year our District completed 23 worthy District projects, a number here in our own communities as well as numerous International projects: HHART projects in the Dominican Republic and Rotary Wheels for Learning in Cambodia. This past year as well the first Rotary School in Cambodia was revisited and added to and a second Rotary School was built. District Rotarians also continue to work on the Guatemalan Literacy project. Other projects like the Adventure in Understanding is about to take off for the 3rd time. DUE TO OVERWHELMING INTEREST IN THIS CONFERENCE ACCOMMODATIONS AT THE JW MARRIOTT ARE AT OR NEAR A SELL OUT.
In order to accommodate more attendees, we have negotiated additional rooms at Clevelands House. Clevelands House is closed at this time of the year but they have agreed to reopen a block of guest rooms to accommodate our conference.
Clevelands Housed is located just minutes from the Marriott at 1040 Juddhaven Road. To get to the Marriott, one must drive by Clevelands House. There is a walking path between the two resorts and the walk is less than 10 minutes. In addition; the conference will have a shuttle bus running between the two resorts.
Our new Board of Directors is at the helm and testing out a new structure which consists of a smaller Board that works with a Leadership Team. The Board has also assumed oversight for fundraising and public relations, and will continue to receive support from many individual members and sub-committees who oversee various tasks and responsibilities that keep the club running.
The Summer Team is up to bat with meeting duties for July, August and September. Led by Mary Ann Winterton, the team lineup is Tyler Chatterson, Geoffrey Belisle, Dominic Ellis, Brian Hickey, Bill Huggett, Nilusha Premasinghe, and Karen Willison.
