African Literacy Project - Barrie (April 17 & 18 2015)
Hello Everyone!
Thank you for your contribution and effort for this weekend in making this event a true success. With everyone’s full attention and contribution we were able to have the container FULL of equipment and books embark on its journey to Sierre Leone Africa to assist and provide a better environment for learning and developing for the future. Our goal has been met for this our second container and so a big THANK YOU to everyone from the Simcoe County Board of Education, Rotary Club of Collingwood, Rotary Club of Alliston, Rotary Club of South Georgian Bay, Rotaract Club of South Georgian Bay, Rotary Club of Innisfil, Rotary Club of Barrie-Huronia, Rotary Club of Barrie, YMCA Collingwood and YMCA Barrie.
The container is planned to begin its journey on April 19, 2015 when picked up and will be driven to Montreal and loaded on a ship to Antwerp Belgium followed by Morocco and then onto Sierre Leone with an arrival date of June 25, 2015. We will have photos for the arrival and the unloading as this is the first container being sent to this region there will be much celebration and joy brought to those who currently have little to assist in their education.
With the assistance of some eighty-eight volunteers over the two days we were able to have all the following goods packed into the shipping container without incident. We are now much better positioned for future activities with the organization of remaining equipment being sorted and arrange at Prince of Wales School so any additional pieces will be added in the same areas making access in the future much easier.
A special thank you to those who were able make our tasks were made much easier with donations of equipment from Rockbrune Movers, Barrie and Saunders Book Company, Collingwood. Lunch on Saturday and refreshments were provided by YMCA of Simcoe and Muskoka.
We expect to have photos of our event that we will post onto our website; when this has been completed I will send everyone the link so you can review at you leisure or download for you album. Our plan is to receive from Sierre Leone photographs when the container reaches its destination on or about June 25, 2015 these will also be posted when we have them and you can return and view.
